SDMA Update 5-17-24
Posted on 05/20/2024

Dear SDMA Families and Staff,

It has been a terrific final month in the School District of the Menomonie Area. Please check out the May Highlight on Youth Report that was shared during Monday's school board meeting.

There are only a couple weeks left in the 2023-24 school year. This year's graduation ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 26 in the Menomonie High School Gymnasium. Congratulations to the senior class and all of the families who will be celebrating this terrific accomplishment.

The last day of school for the remainder of SDMA students will be Tuesday, June 4, and summer school is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 17. Summer school registration through Skyward Family Access will close at 4:00 pm today, so please register your child right now if you so desire. More information about summer school is posted on the district website.

In addition to wrapping up this school year, school officials have also been busy planning for 2024-25. Approximately $2 million has been cut from next year's budget, with most of the reductions made by deferring savings for capital maintenance needs, reducing budget contingencies, and eliminating the French language program at MHS. These cuts will cover about half of next year's projected budget deficit, so the district will likely need to spend down the fund balance unless the Board decides to try for another referendum in November. Please be on the lookout for information about school board listening sessions this summer.

Best wishes and good luck to all graduating seniors.
